Did you know that judicial courts in Portugal are organized according to their specialized jurisdiction?

The Portuguese judicial system is structured to ensure an effective and appropriate response to the wide range of disputes brought before the courts. Given their nature, specificity, and technical complexity, many of these cases require a more specialized legal approach.

To address this need, specialized courts have been established to handle specific matters with greater depth and technical expertise.

Among the main specialized courts are:

  • Civil Court

  • Criminal Court

  • Commercial Court

  • Family and Juvenile Court

  • Labour Court

  • Intellectual Property Court

  • Competition, Regulation and Supervision Court

  • Administrative and Tax Court

This structure allows for greater specialization among judges and leads to a more precise application of the law and delivery of justice.

More than just a formal division, specialized courts represent a concrete response to today’s complex demands, shaped by technological innovation, globalization, and economic transformation.
