Last December 2021, the Lisbon City Council approved the suspension of new local accommodation licences in the city of Lisbon.
One of the objectives of this initiative will be to submit to the Municipal Assembly the immediate suspension of authorisation for new registrations of local accommodation establishments for a period of six months, without prejudice to their renewal for the same period, until the alteration of the Municipal Regulation for Local Accommodation comes into force.
This proposal was to be voted on last February 9, 2022, however the vote was postponed at the request of the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moeda, who was responsible for examining the initiative to alter the Municipal Regulations for Local Lodging, to February 16, 2022.
It is expected that the proposal will be approved, without foreseeing when it will come into force, since between September 2021 and January 2022 almost 500 new registrations for Local Lodging were registered.
Given the viability of this hypothesis, it will naturally be up to the Municipal Assembly to take the final decision, thus remaining the last vacancies for submission of these applications before the suspension is effectively approved.
